IIT JEE is undoubtedly one of the most challenging exams that students face right after their school days. It is an exam which requires hard work and smartness. Every year around 10 lakh students register for JEE Mains for a few thousand seats in IITs.

The preparation for Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) starts after clearing the 10th class board exam. Students aiming to get their engineering degree should opt for science in class 11. This is a turning point in a student’s life, the concepts taught in Class 12 syllabus are just an extension of what you learned in Class 11. So, if you are determined to make it through JEE, start early.

Let us find out what a student should do from class 11 to prepare well for IIT JEE.

1. Make a study schedule

More than knowledge, JEE preparation is a test of your dedication and persistence. It is imperative to say that candidates aspiring to get into IITs must have a well-planned study schedule. A study schedule or timetable helps in figuring out the course of action for the day.

Study schedule should not be rigid, if you feel like doing something other than your scheduled work then go ahead with it. Remember, if you are not completely dedicated towards your work, you might not get the desired results.

2. Do SWOT analysis to understand yourself

JEE syllabus is quite vast and it is absolutely okay if you are not good at all subjects or topics. You should always adopt a smart approach towards your goals. SWOT analysis helps you to understand your strength, weakness, threat and opportunity. Once you have a clear idea about your weaknesses, you will know where you need to work more. If you are good in a particular subject, like maths, then you know that you can use it as your strength and score maximum marks in that section.

3. Collect Study Material for IIT JEE

Building your concepts from NCERT books is the best way to build your foundation for JEE preparation. But, if you are competing against ten lakh students then NCERT alone is not enough. You need to take help from study material which covers your syllabus comprehensively.

4. Take help from expert teachers from coaching institutes

There is no doubt that school is the best place to start your preparation but it is not enough. Coaching institutes help students with study material, planning and regular revision. Class XI is the right time to start your coaching for JEE preparation. This is the time when you are introduced to new and intriguing concepts in maths, physics and chemistry. A good coaching institute will help you understand difficult concepts in simple ways. Along with regular topic-wise tests, they ensure that you are able to solve a wide variety of questions within a limited time frame.

5. Be consistent with your approach

The most challenging part during JEE preparation is to stay motivated and consistent. For a school going student, it is difficult to maintain a schedule day by day. Whenever you feel like giving up, remember that if you give up, your goals will never be fulfilled.
