Varasudu Movie: Tamil star Vijay’s Vaarisu directed by Vamshi Paidipally had a theatrical release today in Telugu as Varasudu. Let’s see how it holds up.
Story: The Rajendra group of industries owned by Rajendra (Sharathkumar) will lead the mining industry along with his two sons Jai (Srikanth) and Ajay (Kick Shyam). On the other hand, his rival Jaya Prakash (Prakash Raj) would be trying hard to pull Rajendra. At one point, Rajendra’s younger son Vijay (Vijay) who lives away from the family, comes on the scene and takes over his father’s business network. Why did Vijay suddenly become the MD of Rajendra Group of Industries? The story behind Rajendra’s strange decision to keep his other two sons apart? To know this, you will have to watch the film in your nearest theatres.
Performances: As always, Vijay slays with his screen presence. His makeover as a corporate CEO in formal attire is good. On the acting front, Vijay does his part decently in a role that has restrictions. People will love his comedy timing and dance in the song Ranjitamaye.
Senior actor Sarathkumar plays his purposeful father quite effectively. Her emotional struggle with Vijay is shown well. Jayasudha, on the other hand, nailed her role as a homemaker and mother of three kids.
Srikanth, Kick Shyam, Sangeeta among others perform well in their given roles. Heroine Rashmika Mandanna doesn’t have much to do as she is used only for the songs. Yogi Babu is not being put to good use.

Prakash Raj is fine in his negatively shaded role. Other padding actors like Ganesh Venkataraman and Prabhu are fine in their respective roles.
Technicalities: The cinematography work by Karthik Palani is top notch as he anchors the entire film on a grand note. He captured the mood of the film very well and brought the cast beautifully on screen.
Thaman has done a good job with the songs. His background score is quite catchy. Editing by Praveen KL is fine but close to ten minutes in the second half could have been cut for better viewing experience.
Production values by Dil Raju ‘s SVC and PVP Cinema are rich.
Analysis: Director Vamshi Paidipally’s idea of exploring family values through Varasudu is a good one. On the other hand, the film has a heavy dose of previous Telugu blockbusters which should have been avoided but they balance Vijay’s star image with good height blocks at regular intervals.
Had Vamshi worked more on the period part at the screenplay level itself, the result would have been unanimous. To summarise, Varasudu is an emotional family drama which has some emotional elements to engage the audience during this festive weekend. Vijay’s style and family action is an asset to the film.
Verdict: Same old plot!
