2000 Note Exchange Rules: The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has decided to remove the Rs 2000 note from circulation. People have time till September 30, when they can go to the bank and exchange their Rs 2000 note. For this, this service has started from today i.e. May 23, 2023. In such a situation, people will start going round the banks with their 2000 rupee notes.

According to sources, the facility of changing 2000 rupee notes will be available only in banks and it cannot be changed by going to post offices. However, customers can deposit Rs 2000 notes in post offices as these notes are still legal tender.
Last week on Friday, the RBI, while taking out the Rs 2000 note from circulation, said that from May 23, people can exchange or deposit their Rs 2000 notes in banks. However, RBI said that Rs 2000 notes will continue to be legal tender. Along with this, the Reserve Bank has also prohibited banks from issuing 2000 rupee notes.

Why were 2000 rupee Note issued

Reserve Bank Governor Shaktikanta Das said on Monday that from May 23, 2023, notes of Rs 2000 can be exchanged for notes of other value at a time in any bank. RBI has set its limit at Rs 20,000. Das said that people have been given time till September 30, 2023, so that they take this process seriously and this process does not become endless.
